Matchup History
- Headed into the season, the Thunderbirds had lost all seven of their games against UT Arlington. This year, Southern Utah turned the tide with two wins and its sights are set on a third.
- In a 58-55 win to open 2026, SUU cut the Mavericks' comeback attempt short. Junior Ava Uhrich and sophomore Sierra Chambers combined for 38 points before sophomore Kortney Doman rejected UT Arlington's buzzer beater look.
- Uhrich erupted again in the Thunderbirds' most recent matchup versus the Mavericks, notching a career-high 30 points in a 77-68 victory.
The Thunderbirds
After Thursday's game-changing 85-70 win over a WAC-leading California Baptist team, Southern Utah could ensure itself the two seed and a postseason bye if they win out. The 16-8 Thunderbirds enter their game against UTA having won five of their last six games to boost them to an 8-4 conference record.
SUU's offense has been one of the best in the conference, averaging 73.2 points and 15.1 assists. They've also topped the charts in the rebounding game, ranking in the top 20 nationally with 42.6 boards per game.
Junior Brooklyn Fely ended Thursday night's contest with an incredible 31-point, 13-rebound statline. She averages 12.7 points and 8.6 rebounds to complement Uhrich's 13.9 points and 9.8 boards per game. Chambers leads the team with 14.8 points and 3.8 assists per game.
Scouting Report
UT Arlington Mavericks
The 10-14 Mavericks seem to have finally found their groove. While they failed to pick up wins against tough California Baptist and Abilene Christian teams, they defeated Utah Valley in overtime and Utah Tech in double-overtime to bump themselves to fifth in the WAC standings.
UT Arlington's offense has remained relatively stagnant, but its defense is a force to be reckoned with. They average 9.5 steals and five blocks per game while holding opposing teams to a low 25.5% three-point rate.
One of the WAC's newest superstars, freshman Kira Reynolds, leads the Mavericks in points with 12.5 per game, rebounds with 8.1 per game, and blocks with 2.6 per game. If the Thunderbirds can't slow her down, she could pose an issue for them on Saturday.
