Game Recap

First Half

Southern Utah utilized a well-rounded scoring attack to start the game, with four different Thunderbirds adding baskets on a 9-2 run. Although the Mavericks recovered quickly, three first-quarter triples from freshman Devyn Kiernan kept SUU ahead 20-17.

After sophomore Sierra Chambers cashed in on a pair of early second-quarter jumpers, junior Morgan Trigueiro knocked down a three-pointer to earn a double-digit lead. However, UT Arlington battled back to a 36-30 deficit in a foul-heavy close to the first half.

Second Half

A 7-0 run by the Mavericks early in the third quarter made for a one-score game, but a huge triple from Chambers helped the Thunderbirds regain their momentum. Sophomore Kortney Doman beat the buzzer to put her team up 51-47 with a quarter to go.

SUU burst away on a massive scoring spree in the fourth, including multiple buckets from Chambers and Doman that sandwiched an arcing fourth three-pointer from Kiernan. Down by 13 now, the Mavericks mounted a comeback to cut it to a two-score game.

With the clock under a minute, Chambers drove underneath to the hoop for a critical layup, forcing UTA to start fouling. Chambers capitalized with a pair of free throws, and the Thunderbirds sent the Mavericks packing 78-67.
