CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- True freshman point guard Elijah Duval earned his second-straight WAC Newcomer of the Week honors, and his third in the last four weeks.
Head Coach Rob Jeter said
"Elijah just wants to win. He works incredibly hard, he's very talented and he is just continuing to get better. He is making better decision with the ball and starting to be a real leader for us."
Duval was stellar in two games in Texas this week. Despite the T-Birds going 0-2, Elijah was a consistent force through both games.
On Thursday, February 19, the T-Birds were in a grudge match at Tarleton State and held an 11-point lead in the first half. Duval led all scorers with 23 points on 2-4 from deep and 7-9 from the FT line. He also corralled seven boards, dished three assists, and had three steals.
Last Saturday, at Abilene Christian, Elijah scored 19 points, second only to Logan Stephens' career-high 20. Duval was 8-13 from the field and 1-3 from three. He snatched two rebounds, dished four assists, and had a block and a steal.
Across the two games, Duval averaged 22.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and had five steals and a block. His shooting splits were 45/42/69.
Duval leads the league in scoring as a freshman and is fifth in the conference in PPG during conference play at 15.4, and is fourth in total assists with 54.
