RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Southern Utah women's basketball team couldn't handle California Baptist's offense in a 77-61 loss that wrapped up a strong 2025-2026 regular season. The March 7 struggle bumped the Thunderbirds to a 19-11 overall record and an 11-7 Western Athletic Conference record, while the Lancers jumped to 21-10 overall with a 15-3 record in the WAC.
Top T-Birds
- Junior Ava Uhrich locked in her tenth double-double of the campaign, racking up 15 rebounds and 22 points.
- In addition to a 15-point performance, sophomore Sierra Chambers dished up three assists and brought down five boards.
- Sophomore Kortney Doman executed well defensively, chipping in three blocks, seven rebounds, and a steal.
Head Coach Tracy Mason Said:
"CBU played like the conference champions today. We missed a lot of early shots that put us behind, and we struggled on defense throughout the game. I'm am still very proud of the season we've had, and we're looking forward to competing in the conference tournament next week."
Game Recap
First Half
The Lancers started the game with a 7-0 run, but a layup from junior Brooklyn Fely and a triple from sophomore Sierra Chambers ended the opening drought. Although junior Ava Uhrich broke away on a seven-point scoring spree, the Thunderbirds couldn't slow down California Baptist's offense. CBU led 26-16 at the end of the first quarter.
In a quiet opening to the second, Southern Utah was held scoreless for over four minutes. Once again, Fely snapped the streak before her team found their way to a scoring spree that included triples from Uhrich and freshman Devyn Kiernan. However, the Lancers' offense remained on point to take a 44-31 advantage.
Second Half
Chambers cashed in on a momentous and-one basket, and Uhrich put down a triple in the early third, but SUU simply couldn't put a stop to the bleeding. CBU coasted to a 66-49 lead with a quarter left.
The game continued to creep out of hand, with only Fely scoring a Southern Utah basket in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. Chambers added seven points to the Thunderbirds' totals in the final minutes, but it was too little too late as California Baptist earned the 77-61 win.
