Thunderbirds Wrap Up Action-Packed Weekend Across Multiple Events

CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Southern Utah Thunderbirds track and field program saw athletes compete across the Bryan Clay Multi, Utah Spring Classic, and Weber State Spring Classic, highlighted by strong decathlon and heptathlon performances, along with key sprint, hurdle, and field event efforts throughout the weekend.


Head Coach Eric Houle said

"Great start for those competing at Mt Sac and Azusa the last couple of days. Lily Collier set a PR in the 4259 hurdle event by 250 points, and Jared Sharp scored 6310 in the Decathlon. Both are now third in the WAC. Hope to continue improving our performances as we move into next week's competitions."

Men's Recap and Results

Southern Utah's men were led in the decathlon by Jared Sharp, who placed eighth overall with 6,310 points. Sharp was highlighted by a win in the 1,500 meters (4:22.23), a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters (49.95), and a 4.20-meter clearance in the pole vault. Nathan Anderson finished 10th with 5,226 points, earning a runner-up finish in the 400 meters (50.86) and adding seventh-place marks in both the 110-meter hurdles (16.03) and javelin (42.38m). In open competition, Tanner Crosland clocked a personal-best 56.17 in the 400-meter hurdles for sixth place, while Caiden Garcia-Casey ran 11.28 in the 100 meters and 15.60 in the 110-meter hurdles. Quincy Esplin added marks of 45.17 meters in the hammer throw and 32.28 meters in the discus to round out the Thunderbird performances.

Women's Recap and Results

The Thunderbird women were led by freshman heptathlete Lily Collier, who placed 15th overall with 4,254 points. Collier's top performance came in the 800 meters, where she ran 2:24.70 for a fifth-place finish, while also clearing 1.53 meters in the high jump. She added a 26.22 in the 200 meters and a 5.16-meter long jump as part of a strong multi-event showing. In open events, Harmony Lopez ran 1:02.49 in the 400 meters, while Addison Wilcox posted a 15.27 in the 100-meter hurdles.
