Southern Utah Athletics Launches Jr. T-Birds Partnership with Cedar City Sports and Recreation and State Bank of Southern Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah Athletics is expanding its commitment to the local community through a new partnership with Cedar City Sports and Recreation and State Bank of Southern Utah that will provide local youth with greater access to Thunderbirds Athletics than ever before.

Beginning this fall, every child who registers for a Cedar City Sports and Recreation youth sports league will automatically become a member of the Jr. T-Birds Kids Club, presented by State Bank of Southern Utah.

As a Jr. T-Birds member, each participant will receive:

  • Free admission to all Southern Utah Athletics home sporting events.
  • An official Jr. T-Birds swag bag.
  • Invitations to exclusive Jr. T-Birds events and game day experiences throughout the year.

The partnership reflects Southern Utah Athletics' ongoing commitment to strengthening its connection with the Cedar City community by creating opportunities for young fans and their families to engage with Thunderbirds student-athletes and experience collegiate athletics firsthand.

"Community engagement is a priority for Southern Utah Athletics, and this partnership with Cedar City Recreation and State Bank of Southern Utah allows us to create meaningful opportunities for local youth while building stronger relationships throughout our community," said Tom Higbee, Southern Utah University's Interim Director of Athletics.

The partnership will officially kick off with the Jr. T-Birds Launch Party on Tuesday, August 12, from 4-8 p.m. During the event, youth participants will pick up their jerseys for the upcoming recreation season, meet Southern Utah student-athletes, enjoy interactive games and activities, and celebrate the beginning of the new Jr. T-Birds program.

Throughout the 2026-27 athletic season, Southern Utah Athletics will also host dedicated Jr. T-Birds Days across several sports, featuring kid-focused promotions, special experiences, and family-friendly activities.

The fall schedule includes:

  • Football: October 17 vs. UC Davis Aggies
  • Women's Soccer: October 1 vs. Montana Grizzlies
  • Volleyball: October 10 vs. Weber State Wildcats

"We are thrilled to begin this new partnership with SUU Athletics and look forward to the opportunities it will create for our athletes and our community," said Kathleen Afatasi, Sports and Recreation Program Manager for Cedar City. "This collaboration represents an exciting step forward in expanding access, strengthening connections, and creating meaningful experiences for youth and families in Cedar City and surrounding communities. We're proud to partner with SUU Athletics and can't wait to see the positive impact this relationship will have both on and off the field."

State Bank of Southern Utah's investment in the Jr. T-Birds program underscores its longstanding commitment to supporting youth and strengthening the communities it serves.

"State Bank is excited to sponsor the Jr. T-Birds program, and we are thrilled about the impact it has on the youth and our community!" said Cordelle Morris, Chief Marketing Officer at State Bank of Southern Utah.

Families interested in participating can register for Cedar City Sports and Recreation youth leagues through the Cedar City Sports and Recreation Registration system. Every registered participant will automatically receive Jr. T-Birds Kids Club membership benefits.

By bringing together Southern Utah Athletics, Cedar City Sports and Recreation, and State Bank of Southern Utah, the Jr. T-Birds program represents a shared investment in the future of Cedar City, creating memorable experiences for local youth while inspiring the next generation of Thunderbirds.
