Ron Carling

Ron Carling is in his fifth season as an assistant on the Southern Utah staff.
    A 40-year veteran of the coaching ranks, Carling came to SUU from Snow College, where he served as Roger Reid's top assistant for two seasons, helping the Badgers to a Scenic West Athletic Conference championship in 2006-07. He continues as the top assistant at SUU, where he works with the team's big men as well as with scouting and recruiting.
    Coach Carling literally has a world of coaching experience, with stops at both the college and high school levels as well as in the international arena. He spent 24 seasons as a high school head coach, including 13 at Salt Lake City's Alta High School where he guided the Hawks to a pair of Utah 5A state championships. He has also spent time as a college assistant, at BYU-Hawaii and Adams State as well as at Snow College, and has had a long affiliation with AAU and junior national programs in this country as well as in Australia. In Australia he also worked with both the men's and women's Olympic teams and served as the commissioner of the Australian National Basketball League.
    Carling's international experience has also included a term as the Australian National director of coaching where, in addition to working with the Olympic teams, he was in charge of junior basketball development for Australia. He has also served as an assistant on the USA Junior National Team at the World Youth Games in Moscow, Russia, as well as head coach of the USA Junior National Team in the Nike Hoop Summit and head coach of the USA Select Team on a tour of Spain and Italy.
    Coach Carling is a graduate of Brigham Young University with a Master's degree in physical education from the University of Utah. He and his wife Karin are the parents of four children: Shannon, Stacy, Nate and Greg.
