Todd Brown has worked with the Southern Utah University athletic department since 2007, moving to his current role as the Deputy Athletic Director for Success & Wellness in 2019. Prior to coming to SUU, Brown worked with the University of the Pacific as an Assistant Director of Sports Medicine and Kaiser Permanente as a Sr. Clinical Health Educator.
In 2008, Brown transitioned from Assistant Athletic Trainer to Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. Since that time, Brown has been an integral part of directing and overseeing the academic success of the student-athletes at SUU. During this time, the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Rates (GSR) at Southern Utah University have increased and maintained levels that allow the programs to operate without restrictions.
In 2019, Brown transitioned back to the athletic training world where he reorganized and restructured the athletic training department and services. With the help of some amazing athletic trainers’, Brown and the athletic training staff developed a mission statement, "Providing positive healthcare experiences for high performance athletes through Evidence Based Practices, using a collaborative, solutions centered approach." that allowed them to regain the trust of coaches and student-athletes in the services that were being provided. After leading the day-to-day charge in this area for one year, Brown turned the reins of the athletic training department over to two very qualified and capable individuals as Mikayla Lower and Nate Lower were promoted to Assistant Athletic Directors, Co-Head Athletic Trainers’.
Brown has also been a driving force in reshaping and reorganizing how athletic scholarships are administered at SUU. Under his direction and guidance, Brown led a massive transformation in the athletic scholarship process. This change allowed each coach more flexibility in who they recruit while providing increased funding to the student-athletes. Along with change came a significant annual revenue increase to SUU.
Brown has also filled roles over the years as sport administrator for M/W Golf, M/W Basketball, Gymnastics, M/W Cross Country/Track and Field along with M/W Tennis. Brown Served as the Interim Athletic Director from May of 2022 until January of 2023.
Brown’s current responsibilities have him overseeing academics, athletic training and compliance, while fulfilling the role of athletic trainer for the Men’s Basketball team.
Brown earned a master of science degree in athletic training from Ohio University in 2001 and an undergraduate degree in athletic training from Southern Utah University in 2000.
