Thunderbirds Out Shoot Jaguars, But Fall 1-0 on the Road

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Oct. 17 - Southern Utah recorded 13 shots to the Jaguars' nine, but it was one shot that found the back of the net  in the second half that proved to be the difference as SUU fell to IUPUI 1-0 on Friday night.  The loss drops the Thunderbirds to 4-8-0 (1-3-0 Summit) while IUPUI moves to 8-6-0 and 4-1-0 in The Summit League.

"This was a frustrating loss today," head coach Brian Stock said.  "We did a sound job of absorbing their early pressure, but we were victim of not putting away our chances today."

Neither team broke through with their shots in the first half with SUU recording five cracks at the goal and IUPUI tallying six.  The deadlock was finally broken early in the second half as the Jaguars' Katrina McCrory redirected a Natalie Holland indirect kick into the net in the 58th minute.

The 1-0 lead remained despite eights shots by the Thunderbirds to IUPUI's three throughout the final 45-minute half.  Southern Utah had a pair of opportunities with back-to-back shots on goal in a matter of seconds, one in the 50th minute and the other in the 74th minute, but Jamie Farrell recorded five of her six saves during the night in the second half to keep SUU scoreless.

"We are still very much alive in the conference," Stock said.  "But we are going to have to be perfect and take care of our business down the stretch."

Southern Utah will be back in action on Sunday when the team continues its final conference road trip of the year with a match at Oral Roberts.  Kick-off for the game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Tulsa.
