Shots a Rare Commodity as Thunderbirds Fall to Jackrabbits, 3-0

BROOKINGS, S.D. - Oct. 25 - Southern Utah and South Dakota State combined for only 19 shots in the entire game on Sunday afternoon, but three of the Jackrabbits' attempts were able to find the back of the net as SUU fell 3-0 on the road.  The loss drops the Thunderbirds to 3-12-2 and 1-5-1 in conference play.  South Dakota State moves to 9-6-2 overall and 6-2-0 in the Summit League.

The teams matched each other in shots during the first half as each side recorded five attempts during the first 45 minutes.  SDSU's Courtney Higgins put the first lights on the board with her goal in the 25th minute, but one goal was the only thing separating the two teams at the half.  The Thunderbirds recorded their only shot on goal during the game in the 8th minute as Erin Marble's shot was saved by SDSU keeper Brienna Rogers.

Despite only five shots by South Dakota State in the second half, the home team was able to record two more goals for the eventual 3-0 final.  Southern Utah tallied four shots during the final half, but were unable to put any on goal.

Marble and freshman Jessica Yukihiro led Southern Utah during the game with two shots each.  South Dakota State's second half goals came off the feet of Tory Schlitgen and Brittany Sipp in the 46th and 69th minute, respectively.

Southern Utah will wrap up its home schedule this coming weekend when the Thunderbirds host Centenary and Oral Roberts on Thursday and Saturday afternoon.  Kick-off against the Ladies on Thursday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with the game on Saturday beginning at Noon.
