OREM, Utah - Sept. 12 - Southern Utah found itself down 1-0 on a 40-yard free kick in the opening half, but came back in the second half to record two goals and the 2-1 victory over Utah Valley on Saturday afternoon.  The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Thunderbirds, bringing the team to 1-4 on the year while the Wolverines dropped to 1-5.

"We played well over the first ten minutes of the game and then the team went flat," head coach Brian Stock said of the game.  "However, in the second half we were the dominant team and we owned the final 45 minutes."

The Thunderbirds opened with true freshman Breana Fitzgerald in goal and fell behind early as a ball passed over her head on the free kick in the first half.  It was the only goal that Fitzgerald would allow in her first collegiate start as she finished the game with six saves while facing 21 shots from the opposition.

"Breana just made a freshman mistake on that first goal," Stock said of the opening point.  "It is something that she can learn from and move on."

The 1-0 lead for Utah Valley carried into the intermission, but the score was quickly tied as junior Erin Marble collected a rebound off her own shot four minutes into the second half and buried the ball into the left corner of the goal.  The eventual game winner came in the 60th minute as senior Laura Goodrich beat her marker on a pass from Riley Bassett and found the left corner of the goal, shooting from right to left.

Bassett and Marble led the team with three shots each as the Thunderbirds recorded a total of 16 shots on the afternoon.  Utah Valley utilized most of their bench during the game as a total of 22 players saw time on the pitch.

Southern Utah will be back at home this coming Wednesday when the Thunderbirds host the Westminster Griffins at 4:00 p.m.
