IRVINE, Calif. - Sept. 6 - Southern Utah suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of host UC-Irvine on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the UC-Irvine invitational, but despite the loss, SUU senior Kristen Fronk and freshman Jessica Yukihiro picked up all-tournament honors for their play over the weekend. The loss dropped the Thunderbirds to 0-4 on the year.
Southern Utah fell behind early in the game as UCI's Tanya Taylor scored the first of her two goals during the match in the 17th minute to give the Anteaters a 1-0 lead. The margin held through the half, despite 11 shots and six corner kicks surrendered by the T-Birds during the opening 45 minutes.
The second half was a different story as both teams proved to be very accurate with shots as Southern Utah recorded four shots (all on goal) while UC Irvine tallied three goals on five shots during the final frame. Dana Sanderlin (47th minute), Taylor (52nd minute) and Alyssa Humphrey (73rd minute) recorded the goals for the Anteaters in the second half.
The Thunderbirds were able to go deep into the bench during the game as 22 players saw action, including reserve keeper Breana Fitzgerald who came onto the field during the final ten miutes of the game, keeping UCI scoreless during that time. Southern Utah's attack was just out of sync during the contest as the team was whistled for offsides on eight separate occasions during the game.

Southern Utah will be back in action next Saturday when the Thunderbirds face Utah Valley University in Orem.
