Levins and Manuele Competing for NCAA Titles this Weekend

CEDAR CITY, Utah - March 10 - Cameron Levins and Sharla Manuele will represent Southern Utah University on a national stage this weekend when the pair competes at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Levins and Manuele both recorded qualifying times in the mile.

The duo are the first NCAA indoor qualifiers for Southern Utah since Mark Wright qualified for the meet in the 800-meters during the 1999-2000 season. Manuele is the first woman to qualify for the indoor championships in school history. The pair also hold the distinction as the only qualifiers in the state of Utah outside of a contingency from BYU and the only qualifiers from the Summit League outside of individual qualifiers from North Dakota State and Oral Roberts.

Manuele qualified by way of a 4:39.82 mile last weekend at the University of Washington. The time is the ninth fastest in the nation among 17 athletes that qualified for the championships. The qualifying times for the women's mile stretch from 4:31.24 to 4:41.64.

Levins ran Southern Utah's first ever sub four-minute mile earlier this year and qualified as No. 14 in the nation for the men's race. Levins' time of 3:59.80 broke the school record and fell between the qualifying window of 3:57.62 and 3:59.97 of the 16 athletes that will compete in the race.

Both races will consist of two qualifying heats on Friday with the top three finishers from each heat advancing the finals on Saturday. The finals on Saturday will be filled out with the next three fastest times from the qualifying races.
