Southern Utah Field Athletes Make the Most Noise in Ogden

OGDEN, Utah - May 5 - Only a handful of SUU track and field athletes competed on Wednesday night at the Weber Twilight meet and it was the field athletes that recorded the best finishes for the Thunderbirds during the night.

Southern Utah only had three athletes compete in track events during the meet with Shaye Maurer and Kylie Frandsen finishing 8th and 12th, respectively in the women's 100-meter hurdles with times of 15.30 and 16.03.  Holly Ledbetter was the final athlete to compete on the track for SUU, finishing second in the women's 400-meters with a time of 58.20.

Whitney Singleton represented the T-Birds in the women's shot put, finishing with a mark of 39 feet 11.25 inches.  Forrest Ledbetter made up the best mark for the men in the event, tossing the shot 49 feet 8.5 inches to finish sixth.

In the discus, Kristi Koplin matched Holly Ledbetter's silver medal in the 400-meters by throwing the second-best mark of 147 feet five inches.  Utah State's Shannon Prince won the event with a mark of 154 feet five inches.  Forrest Ledbetter, once again, recorded the best mark for the T-Bird men in the event with a distance of 131 feet 11.75 inches.

Jacki Stoddard finished on the medal stand for the Thunderbirds in the women's javelin, throwing a third-place mark of 134 feet three inches and then came back later in the competition to finish sixth in the women's high jump, clearing the bar at 5 feet 3.5 inches.

In the final throwing event of the night, Koplin recorded a bronze-medal finish in the women's hammer with a mark of 181 feet eight inches.  Her mark was better than Southern Utah's top finish on the men's side in the event as Jordan Parker finished in fifth place after throwing 137 feet four inches.

Chelsey Morley and Zane Hunzeker represented Southern Utah in the pole vault as the duo cleared heights of 10 feet six inches on the women's side and 14 feet six inches on the men's side, respectively.

Cheyenne Thatcher (long jump, 15-9.75) and Kylie Murakami (triple jump, 34-7.25) made up the final top marks for the Thunderbirds on the night.

The Weber Twilight marked the final competition for SUU track and field as the team will now turn its sites to a conference championship.  The Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships are scheduled for May 13-15 in Toledo, Ohio.
