CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University softball will continue its Summit League slate this weekend when the Thunderbirds host Western Illinois University. The two teams are scheduled to play a three-game series with a doubleheader set for Friday at 1:00 p.m. and the series finale on Saturday at Noon.
Southern Utah will enter having won two of its last three games and having hit over .300 with four home runs over the three-game stretch. Aly Daniels, Darleen Fernandez and Haylee Hoch were especially dangerous from the plate as each hit above .400 while starting in each of the games. Fernandez is currently second in the league with 15 RBI and leads the Summit League with four home runs.
Pitching was equally as strong as Heather Black went undefeated in her two starts, throwing a pair of complete games and racking up eight strikeouts. The performance evened her record at 6-6 on the year and brought her total number of strikeouts to 41. Her total ranks her No. 4 in the Summit League this year.
