SUU Softball Falls to Brigham Young in St. George

ST. GEORGE, Utah - May 10 - Southern Utah University softball used a total of 18 players on its roster in an 8-0 defeat to Brigham Young University on Tuesday afternoon at Dixie State College. The game is the final contest before the Thunderbirds travel to Macomb, Illinois and compete in the Summit League softball tournament this weekend.

The Cougars took an early lead with runs in the first, second and third innings to build an advantage of 8-0 before the Thunderbirds finally mustered their first scoring threat of the day in the bottom of the third. Freshman Terysa Dyer and senior Aly Daniels drew walks in the frame to put runners on first and second, but the team wasn't able to come through with a hit to put lights on the scoreboard.

Southern Utah's next chance came in the bottom of the fourth as Brittany Henderson laced a one-out double down the left field line and then advanced to third on a single by Madison Resley on the next at bat. However, a pop fly and ground ball ended the frame and the scoring chance.

The Thunderbirds put runners on first and second in the bottom of the fifth as Dyer and fellow freshman Cora Cordova notched a pair of singles. But, once again, SUU batters weren't able to crack the Cougar defense keeping the game scoreless and punctuating the 8-0 defeat.

Southern Utah will now look to break out of its regular season four-game losing streak when the Thunderbirds begin the first round of the Summit League Championship tournament on Thursday. SUU will face the No. 1-seeded UMKC Kangaroos in the first round of the tournament with the first pitched scheduled for 11:00 a.m. (MT).
