SAAC Sponsoring "Shoe Can Do It" Drive

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University's Student Athlete Advisory Committee is sponsoring the "Shoe Can Do It" drive to collect gently worn or new shoes, canned goods and cash donations that will be spread among local charitable organizations. The drive kicked off last Saturday and will run through February 15.

"Our student athletes love being involved in community causes," SAAC advisor Marlene Barth said. "Our canned food drive has always been a tradition and now coupled with the Big Sky's shoe drive will only help out our local charities even more."

In addition to receiving the benefits of giving to the community, participants will also receive a discount at the ticket window to athletic events through Feb. 15. Fans will receive up to a $5 discount, including $1 off for each canned good and $2 off for each pair of shoes.

SAAC will also be sponsoring a special event this Wednesday, February 6, where Southern Utah's Olympian Cameron Levins will recap his experience in London. A special drawing for prizes will take place following the event with attendees able to collect tickets through the donation of shoes, canned goods or cash.

Donations will be taken outside of SUU as well with five elementary schools, two high schools and two middle schools in the Cedar City area anticipated to participate. Collection receptacles are also anticipated to be located at Wal-Mart and Lin's.
