PARK CITY, Utah - Oct. 7 - SUU men's golf dropped one spot in the final round of the Ogio Utah Invitational to finish in ninth place.
Nic Booth (68,69,73) of the Thunderbirds took home the individual title after a five hole playoff where Booth faced Seattle's Joe Harvie. Booth started the day with a 2-stroke lead but was 3-over par on the day going into his 18th and final hole. He needed to birdie the hole to force a playoff and that's exaclty what he did. Booth and Harvie stayed tied through the first four playoff holes until Booth shot par on the fifth and deciding playoff hole, the par-4 18th hole.
"We are very proud of Nic," Head Coach Richard Church said, "He did what he needed to do on the final hole to force a playoff and then stayed focused through the playoff to get the win."
SUU as a team finished the day shooting 366, tying their best score from the first day and giving them a 38-over par for the Invitational. Fidel Concepcion (73,74,74) and Tim Leonard (74,76,72) shot the next two best scores for the Thunderbirds. Fidel finished with an 8-over par performance and Leonard finished 9-over par.
Looking ahead, men's golf will travel to Simi Valley, Calif. to participate in the Bill Cullum Invitational on October 20-22.
