Men's Golf Take on Challenging Field at Wyoming Cowboy Classic

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Men's Golf team will tee it up at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Maricopa, Arizona, at the AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club on March 31 and April 1. The tournament is hosted by the University of Wyoming and will host a field of 25 teams.

Head Coach Richard Church said

"This is a strong field and a challenging golf course, it will be good prep for us as we are getting closer to the conference tournament."

Who: Arkansas State, CSU Fullerton, CSU Northridge, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Iowa State, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, San Diego, San Francisco, South Dakota State, USC, Southern Utah, St Mary's, UC Irvine, UNLV, USF, UT Arlington*, UTEP, Utah State, Utah Valley*, Weber State, Western Carolina, Wichita State, Wyoming

Format: The teams will play 36 holes on day one, followed by 18 holes on day two. Each team will have five members compete, and the top four scores will count towards the overall team score.

Last Time Out

Southern Utah Men's Golf wrapped up play at the UC San Diego Invitational with a 12th-place finish, posting rounds of 298, 288, and 291 for a three-round total of 877 (+13).

Uy Doan led the Thunderbirds with an impressive performance, finishing tied for fifth at 210 (-6). Doan delivered one of the top rounds of the tournament with a second-round 68 (-4) and followed it up with a 70 (-2) to secure a top-five finish. Doan totaled 15 birdies across the three rounds, including six in his second round of 68.

Braylon Bingham added a solid showing for SUU, finishing tied for 35th at 218 (+2). Bingham highlighted his tournament with a second-round 69 (-3) that included four birdies and one bogey. After two rounds of play, Bingham was inside the top-10 for the tournament.

Jing-Cheng (Jarell) Wang placed tied for 51st at 221 (+5), bouncing back with a strong final-round 71 (-1). Charlie Gillespie finished 87th at 230 (+14), while Luke Barnes rounded out the lineup in 90th at 231 (+15). Gillespie had an up-and-down tournament, tallying eight birdies and an eagle, but also making multiple double bogeys.

SUU tallied the 10th most birdies of any team in the field with 46.

The Thunderbirds' second-round 288 marked their best team performance of the event, showing the group's ability to put together strong stretches against a competitive field. Southern Utah will look to build on that momentum with just one tournament left before the conference championships.
