BOISE STATE, Idaho – The Broncos of Boise State (8-2) never trailed in a 79-60 win against the Thunderbirds (2-5) on Sunday afternoon.
SUU struggled to find the hoop for the first 10 minutes of the game, scoring just six points. A.J. Hess and Race Parsons would get the ball rolling for the Thunderbirds as they knocked down back-to-back deep threes to cut into the Broncos lead. SUU would get as close as four points at 20-24 before the Broncos opened up a 10-point lead at 31-21. The Thunderbirds battled back to a six-point deficit by the end of the first half, down just 38-32 at the break.
John Marshall was the only Thunderbird in double-digits scoring with 10. He scored the first six points of the game on two layups and two free throws. He also had an assist and two steals. Hess chipped in eight points on 3-6 shooting including two three pointers. Travon Langston had six points and two steals in just nine minutes played.
Boise State came out of the second half on a 7-0 run to push their lead to 12-points before Juwan Major would make the first points of the half for the Thunderbirds. The Broncos would continue their hot shooting to open the second half with a 12-3 run to take their biggest lead of the game with 10 minutes to play in the game. The Thunderbirds would get as close as 14 points but no closer as the Broncos would take this one with a final score of 79-60.
Marshall finished the game as the high scorer for the Thunderbirds with 14 points. Marshall was 6-6 from the free throw line. Langston added 11 as the only other Thunderbird in double-digits.
The Thunderbirds shot just 37.5 percent from the field in the second half and 40.4 percent for the game. They struggled from deep, hitting only 4-18 for 22.2 percent but had a good game from the charity stripe, shooting 70 percent.
SUU stays on the road for the rest of December, playing next on December 19 against Loyola Chicago.
