STANFORD, Calif./SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – April 4 – The Thunderbird distance squad spent a busy day in California on Friday as the athletes split between the Stanford Invitational and San Francisco State Distance Carnival. Several runners recorded top-ranking Big Sky performances, posting a total of seven conference-qualifying times.
“This is why we come out to meets like this,” head coach Eric Houle said. “We go in hoping that the challenge will be enough to give the athletes an opportunity to really rise, and I think they accomplished that this weekend. It was a great set of meets for us.”
Three men and three women represented Southern Utah at the Stanford meet, including senior Ryan Barrus, who posted a first-place Big Sky time of 14:01.24 in the 5,000-meter run and qualified for a spot at the championship.
