LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Southern Utah University cross country headed to UNLV this weekend to compete in the UNLV invitational against Utah Valley University, Dixie State, and UNLV. The Southern Utah women scored 72 points, placing third behind UVU and UNLV. The men earned a first-place finish of 30 points in front of UVU.
The Southern Utah men were led by Skyler Riggs earning a second-place finish with a time of 19:04 (6.3k) behind unattached runner Jason Lynch. He was followed closely behind by Shinano Miyazawa and Dylan Marx, placing third and fourth with times of 19:05 and 19:19, respectively. Matt Wright (19:40) and Eric Sandall (19:54) earned 11th and 12th-place finishes, rounding out the score for the T-Birds. The final runners, Omar Cortes (20:01), Collin Arave (20:29) and Robby Lee completed the men's team with 16th, 20th, and 22nd-place finishes.
The women's 5k was led by freshman Ashley Tyndall for the Thunderbirds, placing 11th overall with a time of 18:27. She was followed by Sierra Malm (18:46) and Jasmyn Hildebrandt (18:48) earning 17th and 18th-place finishes. SUU then finished in a pack with Regan Pond (18:49), Kaylee Boyer (18:55) and Sharlie Dimick (19:03) finishing closely behind one another with 20th, 21st and 22nd-place finishes. The women's team was rounded out by Paige Cardiff (19:08) coming in 25th and Sheri Adair (19:36) with a 29th-place finish.
The cross country team will be back in action next week as the team heads to Minneapolis, Minnesota where they will compete at the Roy Griak Invitational.
