PROVO, Utah - Jan. 11 - SUU Track and Field kicked off the season at the BYU Indoor Invitational. Two Thunderbird men competed this weekend in the heptathlon. The heptathlon consists of seven events: 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 60-meter hurdles, 1000-meter run, and the pole vault.
Returner Stephen Wilson had a successful weekend as he placed third overall with 4799 points. He placed second in the 60-meter dash and first in the long jump (6.85m, 22-5.75). Wilson competed well in the remaining events where he placed 4th in the high jump, third in the 60-meter hurdles, 7th in the shot put, and fourth in pith the 1000-meter run and the pole vault. Freshman, Andrew Tyndall, faired well in his first college heptathlon competition placing ninth overall. He placed in the top in both the 1000-meter run (3:03.41) and the pole vault (4.00m, 13-01.50).
"The indoor season is just as important as the outdoor season," head coach, Eric Houle, said. "What the athletes run and place in indoor will not be the same in outdoor if the training is right. This season helps the athletes compete for a championship and prepare for the outdoor season."
The full team will now prepare to compete at Northern Arizona on Friday, Jan 16.
