SUU Soccer Falls To Idaho On The Road

Box Score

Moscow, Idaho - The Thunderbird soccer team fell Friday afternoon to the Idaho Vandals 4–0 on the road.

"Today's game couldn't have been any farther from our last game agaisnt UNC," SUU head coach Becky Hogan said. "We lacked the intensity taht is needed to win games in the Big Sky."

The loss moves the Thunderbirds to 6–7–1 on the season, with a 1–4–1 mark in the Big Sky Conference. The victory keeps Idaho's winning streak alive in the Big Sky, as they've opened conference play with a 6–0 mark.

The Vandals scored first in the 31st minute when Kavita Battan scored her eighth goal of the season to put the Vandals up 1–0. That was the only score of the first half.

Idaho opened up the floodgates in the second half, as Alyssa Lloyd scored in the 55th minute, Olivia Baggerly scored in the 70th minute and and Elexis Schlossarek scored in the 88th minute off a penalty kick.

Aurora Moberly was able to get two shots on goal for the Thunderbirds, but neither of them found the back of the net.

Idaho only had a slim lead over the Thunderbird in shots, 13–12, but had a larger advantage in shots on goal 9–5.

Taylor Bolding played the entire match in goal for the Thunderbirds, and despite giving up four goals was able to get five saves. Amanda Poertner had five saves for the Vandals to go along with her clean sheet.

The Thunderbirds played today's match without Haley Adams, who couldn't play after being given a red card in the team's last match.

"We missed having Haley Adams in the midfield today," she said. "She is an aggressive player who gets us organized defensively."

Hogan said she expects to see a different performance from the team when Sunday rolls around.

"I anticipate a highly motivated SUU team for Sunday's match," she said. "With our life on the line and our backs againt the wall I am confident that this team will rise to the challenge."

Next up for the Thunderbirds will be a match in Cheney, Washington against the Eastern Washington Eagles. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and updates can be followed on Twitter @SUUThunderbirds.
