Box Score Los Angeles, California - The Thunderbirds traveled to the University of Southern California on Friday night and the undefeated Trojans proved to be too much for SUU to handle as the squad out of the Pac-12 came away with a 71–32 victory.
SUU (1–7) took a 4–2 lead just minutes into the game, but the Trojans took complete control of the first quarter with a 32–0 run to take a 34–4 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play.
"We had a similar first quarter against Northridge, but they weren't as good a team as USC," SUU head coach Chris Boettcher said. "When you a play a team like that it's very hard to fight back."
Boettcher went on to say the difference in time of possesion and the number of shots was so big it was hard to gain any ground.
The T-Birds stepped up their defensive intensity in the second quarter and held USC to 13 points, and countered with 10 of their own to give USC a 47–14 advantage going into the second half
SUU kept up their defensive intensity in the third quarter, again only allowing the Trojans to score 13 points. The fourth quarter was the closest of the four as the Trojans only outscored the T-Birds by one, 11–10.
Forward Taylor Baird had another big outing for the Thunderbirds, scoring 11 points and pulling in five rebounds. The next highest leading scorers for the T-Birds were a trio of players that finished with four.
"I called some time outs early and challenged them to compete and Taylor took that to heart and has the last few games," Boettcher said.
Jordan Adams led the way for USC with 17 points. Kristen Simon nearly pulled in a double-double effort but was just one rebound shy, finishing with 11 points and nine boards.
