CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Southern Utah women's basketball team has been selected to compete in the 2026 Women's National Invitation Tournament, tournament officials announced Sunday. The Thunderbirds are one of 48 teams chosen for the 28th edition of the postseason event.
Head Coach Tracy Mason Said
"We are so excited for the opportunity to play in a postseason tournament. This is a big accomplishment for a well-deserved group. We're looking forward to the bracket coming out so we can start getting prepared."
Southern Utah earned an at-large bid after posting a 19-12 overall record during the 2025-26 campaign, including an 11-7 mark in the Western Athletic Conference.
The Thunderbirds were especially dominant at home this season, compiling a 13-1 record inside the America First Event Center, while collecting key nonconference wins over Washington State Cougars women's basketball and Eastern Washington Eagles women's basketball.
Southern Utah was led by a balanced scoring attack throughout the season. Sierra Chambers paced the team with 14.9 points per game, while Ava Uhrich added 14.1 points and a team-best 9.7 rebounds per game. Brooklyn Fely also averaged 12.7 points and 8.4 rebounds, giving the Thunderbirds a strong presence on the interior.
