Box Score CEDAR CITY, Utah - The SUU soccer team hosted the Eagles of Eastern Washington Friday night in a match that ended in a 3-3 tie.
The Thunderbirds struck first in the 6th minute when junior forward Ally Thimsen scored her third goal of the season on a pass from fellow junior Payton Bonino. The Eagles would answer back almost four minutes later when forward Lexi Klinkenberg scored her first goal of the match on a pass from Chloe Williams.
The back and forth scoring would continue throughout the first half as Thimsen scored her second goal of the match in the 22nd minute off a deflected shot from senior Kelsee Bone to make the score 2-1 Thunderbirds.
The Eagles would answer back twice with goals by Klinkenberg in the 29th minute and Williams in the 32nd minute giving Eastern Washington a 3-2 lead.
Junior midfielder Haley Adams tied things up for the Thunderbirds in the 36th minute when she headed in a cross into the box from junior Jahna Tacson. The score would remain tied for the rest of the game as neither team would be able to find a way to break the tie after the second half and two overtime periods.
The Eagles would end up outshooting SUU 18-16 at the end of the game. Goalkeeper Destiny Collins finished with six saves, two of them coming in the second overtime period.
The next game for the Thunderbirds will be Sunday October 16th against the Montana Grizzlies at home. This game will be the final home game of the season and a ceremony honoring the seniors will take place prior to kickoff.
