Box Score POCATELLO, Idaho - The Thunderbird soccer team traveled to Pocatello Friday for a Big Sky matchup with the Idaho State Bengals. Junior forward Ally Thimsen had three goals on the night and sophomore goalkeeper Destiny Collins completed her first shutout of the season to give the T-Birds a 3-0 win.
The scoring started for the Thunderbirds in the 10th minute when junior midfielder Haley Adams headed a pass to Thimsen on the right side and she put it in the back of the net for her first goal of the game, giving Southern Utah a 1-0 lead early.
The Thunderbirds took a 2-0 lead in the 25th minute when Thimsen took a pass from sophomore Devri Hartle and fired it past the goalkeeper for her sixth goal on the season.
The Bengals outshot the Thunderbirds 13-10 in the first half, but Collins' five first-half saves would keep ISU off the board and the T-Birds would go into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The Thunderbirds dominated the second half outshooting the Bengals 12-6. In the 80th minute Thimsen would complete her hat trick when she beat ISU goalkeeper Shawna Hennings one-on-one to put the Thunderbirds up 3-0.
Thimsen ended her night with six total shots and three goals. Collins finished with six saves and her first career shutout. The Thunderbirds will continue their road trip Sunday in Moscow against the Idaho Vandals at 1pm.
