LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The T-Bird softball team kicked things off at the Alexis Park Resort Classic today at Eller Media Stadium in a rematch against the UNLV Rebels, and this time the team from Las Vegas ended up on top, defeating the T-Birds 6-1.

“I was proud of the way we played tonight,” SUU head coach Tom Gray said about the contest on Thursday night. “We hit several hard line drives right at their defense. If a couple of those fall in, the game looks a lot different.”

After the T-Birds went scoreless in the top of the first inning UNLV got going, as Jamie Depippo sent the ball over the fence to put the Rebels up 1-0.

The T-Birds wouldn't be able to score in the second or third inning either, and the Rebels were able to put two more up on the board in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead.

The Thunderbirds scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning, when Morgan Leonard crossed home plate.

The Rebels would put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory, and eventually won 6-1.

Jordan Theurer and Hanna Wynn shared time in the circle for SUU, both allowing five hits and both allowing three runs.

SUU will continue play on Friday with games against New Mexico State and Florida Atlantic.
