LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Thunderbird softball team continued play at the UNLV Classic on Saturday night with a nightcap against the Oregon Ducks, and Oregon was able to top the Thunderbirds 9-0.
“I thought we played with good energy and had a solid overall approach,” SUU head coach Tom Gray said about the game. “We made some physical errors, but I know we will straighten out.”
The Ducks got things going early, as they put three runs on the board in the top of the first inning. That was Oregon's highest scoring inning, but put at least one up in every single inning of the game.
Oregon scored a run in the second, two in the third, one in the second and two in the fifth to gain a 9-0 lead and take the victory over the T-Birds.
The Thunderbirds finished the game with three hits in 19 at-bats. Oregon had 10 hits on Friday evening.
The Thunderbirds had two pitchers in the circle Friday night, as they split the hits evenly with Hanna Wynn giving up six runs and Haley Wall allowing three. Oregon's Geria Ann Glasco was given the win, and upped her record this season to 4-0.
The Thunderbirds will wrap up play at the UNLV Classic on Sunday with a game against St. Mary's.
