CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Thunderbirds softball team wrapped up their weekend series against the University of Montana Grizzlies on Sunday, with a 14-7 loss.
“I felt that we executed well at the plate. We need to find a way to keep them off the scoreboard, and i believe we will find a way and perform well against Northern Colorado next week,” SUU head coach Tom Gray said.
The Grizzlies got on the board first with one run in the top of the first, and three in the top of the second. SUU answered with two runs in the bottom of the second through a three Thunderbirds hits.
SUU's Amanda Cook had a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth leaving the Thunderbirds trailing by one. The Thunderbirds tied it up in the bottom of the fifth with a 5-5 score, with the help of Kendall Kapitzke who had another solo homer.
Montana's bats came alive in the sixth inning scoring five runs on four hits, making the score 10-5. SUU couldn't answer in the bottom of the sixth. The Grizzlies again came alive scoring four more runs in the top of the seventh.
The Thunderbirds came up with two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to push them to a victory. Montana took game three of the series with a 14-7 win.
SUU will head to Greeley Colorado next weekend to take on conference rivals, Northern Colorado.
