GREELEY, Colo. - The Thunderbirds were finally able to get on the field for a game on Sunday against the Northern Colorado Bears, where UNC prevailed over SUU 5-4.
Weather forced games on both Friday and Saturday to be pushed back, but the teams were able to finally go head-to-head on Sunday.
“After a long weekend of hurry up and wait I thought we played hard today,” SUU head coach Tom Gray said following the contest. “We simply waited too long to get our bats going.”
After the game started with two scoreless full innings, the Bears scored all of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. UNC put five marks up on the board, capped off by a two-run homer that made the score 5-0 in favor of the Bears.
The Thunderbirds had a big inning of their own in the top of the sight, as SUU was able to put four runs on the board to cut the UNC lead to one. The T-Birds started the scoring on a Kylee Wolf grounder, followed by a single the Jordan Theurer, Kendall Kapitzke and Karlee Manzione that all scored runs for SUU.
Unfortunately for the Thunderbirds, they weren't able to put any more runs on the board as the Bears topped the T-Birds 5-4.
After the contest, the Thunderbirds sit with a 9-37 overall record and a 5-11 mark in the Big Sky Conference.
The Thunderbirds only have four games left this season, as they will play a single contest against BYU at home on Tuesday before hosting North Dakota for a three-game series over the weekend.
“We have next week in front of us and will prepare to play our best series of the year against North Dakota,” Gray said about the upcoming schedule.
Attendance to all home SUU softball games is free of charge.
