Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - The SUU soccer team wrapped up play in the Nike Portland Invitational Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 loss to the Washington Huskies.
The Thunderbirds played a good first half holding the Huskies scoreless throughout, but were also held scoreless themselves. The first half also saw SUU take four shots to Washington's six.
The second half would be a different story as Husky forward Becca Schoales would score back-to-back goals in the 51st and 67th minutes of the game.
With about five minutes left to play in the match, forward Isabella Castro would score Washington's third and final goal of the game on a long shot from about 22 yards out.
After the match, coach Hogan remained positive about the team's future saying, “To come out of a weekend a little beat up statistically, but with a fire still burning in our belly shows the fighting spirit of this team. Our trajectory is one that is still on the upswing and I look forward to a great week of practice.”
The Thunderbirds' next game will be Saturday September 17th at home against in-state rival Dixie State.
Looking ahead to the rivalry match, coach Hogan wanted to make one thing clear to the Thunderbird fan base, “My recommendation for the students of SUU and the community in general is this: You will want to be at the game versus Dixie State this Saturday.”
