OGDEN, Utah (September 28, 2016) - The Big Sky Conference has a history of strong play at the Rose City Collegiate, and why not? After all, Portland State hosts the event.
The Big Sky once again delivered in a big way in the tourney, with Sacramento State finishing in the runner-up spot in the tourney, with a total of 879 (+15).
Eight Big Sky teams competed in the tourney, but two individual players distinguished themselves, as Southern Utah golfer Kamonwon (Poy) Prasurtwong and Sacramento State golfer Sofie Babic tied for second place. For their efforts, the two players shared #BigSkyGolf weekly honors.
Prasurtwong and Babic shot 54-hole totals of 213 (-3), with Prasurtwong shooting a final round of 68 (-4), to climb into the runner-up finish. Babic set the Sacramento State 54-hole record in just her second collegiate tournament.
The freshman shot 72-70-71-213 to tie for second at the Rose City Collegiate in Aurora, Ore. Babic led the tournament with 13 birdies and had par or birdie on 45 of her 54 holes.
Portland State took third place in the tourney, as the Vikings were led by Tara Finigan, who finished in fourth place. Finigan shot a 54-hole total of 215, shooting a three-under-par 69 in the second round.
Other high finishers included Northern Colorado's Janet Yeo and Weber State's Kaceelyn Pouttu, who both tied for eighth place, with 54-hole totals of 220; Northern Arizona golfer Sofya Anokhina, finished in a tie for 13th place; and Madalyn Ardueser of Eastern Washington, who shot a 54-hole total of 222 to tie Anokhina.
Montana's Hailey Hoagland was the high finisher for the Grizzlies, with a 54-hole total of 227 (+11).
North Dakota competed in the Bob Hurley Shootout, hosted by the University of Tulsa. Jenna Janu led the Fighting Hawks, finishing in a tie for 12th place, with a 54-hole total of 227 (+14).
