CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Thunderbird men's and women's cross country teams competed at their Color Country meet this weekend. The women swept the competition while the men placed second to Idaho State.

Maddy Kauffman was the first T-Bird on the women's side to cross the finish line. Kauffman finished ahead of all other athletes with a time of 14:43. She was followed by Morgan Porcaro who finished second in the race with a time of 14:47.

The women finished the race with a score of 32 ahead of Idaho State, Utah Valley and Dixie State.

On the men's side, Kasey Knevelbaard lead the pack as an unattached athlete. Knevelbaard finished the race with a time of 18:38.

Mark Bennett was the first Thunderbird to cross the finish line with a time of 19:02. Bennett placed fourth in the race followed by Michael Martin and Liam Kennell.

Idaho State lead the T-Birds by just eight points. The Thunderbirds finished with a total of 33 points ahead of Utah Valley and Dixie State.

"This week was really good preparation for next week for our team," commented head coach Eric Houle. "Even though we didn't run our top team, we were able to see some very strong athletes in the field."
