ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The Thunderbird women's golf team kicked off their week of competition in St. George on Monday, as they opened play at the BYU at Entrada Classic.
Sophomore, and reigning Big Sky Freshman of the Year, Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong was the leader for the Thunderbirds on Monday shooting a 76 in the opening round, and bouncing back with a 73 in the second. Prasurtwong finished the day tied for 24th with a 149.
Second for the T-Birds, and just one shot behind Prasurtwong, as Nicole Jones who finished in a tie for 28th on the leaderboard shooting a 150 (77, 73).
Kyla Smith was third for SUU on the day, shooting a 153 (78, 75) and ending the day tied for 37th on the leaderboard. Senior Miranda Reyes was fourth for the Thunderbirds, and ended play in a tie for 54th overall, shooting a 157 (77, 80). She wrapped up the team scoring for SUU.
Lindsay Aleman was the fifth player in the lineup for SUU on Monday, shooting a 175 (92, 83).
As a team the Thunderbirds finished the opening day in eighth place as a team out of 14 competing groups.
Playing as an individual, Launa Wilson shot a 169 (88, 81) for the Thunderbirds.
Kent State (576) is leading play as a team after two rounds, followed by Brigham Young (578), North Carolina (585), Texas Tech (587) and Oregon State (590).
Kent State's Pimnipa Panthong leads the event on the leaderboard, shooting a 138 (67, 71) through two rounds.
The third and final round at Entrada will be played on Tuesday. At that point, the Thunderbirds will turn their attention to the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational.
