CEDAR CITY, Utah - After playing in their final tournament of season last weekend, the Southern Utah softball team will head north this Friday to take on the BYU Cougars in a doubleheader.

Last Time Out

Last weekend Southern Utah competed in a tournament in Southern California hosted by Loyola Marymount University.

The Thunderbirds used a five-run seventh inning and a complete game pitching performance from Samantha Guile to pick up a 9-3 win over Harvard on Sunday. Nicole Simonson went 3-4 in the game with two runs scored and a RBI.

Kalei Watkins was 5-10 on the weekend with two runs scored and two RBIs in four games.

Scouting Report: BYU Cougars (13-12)

The Cougars come into the weekend with a 13-12 overall record so far in the 2018 season. Last weekend they were in Hawaii to compete in the Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament hosted by the University of Hawaii.

They won five of the six games they played in the tournament, picking up wins over Longwood University, Hawaii, East Carolina, Arkansas Pine Bluff, and James Madison. The Cougars have played five Top-25 ranked teams this season including No. 11 Tennessee, No. 4 Oklahoma, and No. 1 Washington.

The Thunderbirds and the Cougars matched up twice last season, with the BYU taking both games.

Game Info

Friday's doubleheader is set to start at 4:00 p.m. with the second game following about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. The doubleheader is the Cougars' home opener and it will also be Millennial Night at Gail Miller Field.
