T-Birds Start Outdoor T&F Season Strong in Riverside

RECAP | T-Birds Start Outdoor T&F Season Strong in Riverside

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- This weekend the Thunderbirds started out their outdoor season strong at UC Riverside. Many athletes will be returning home with their names in the school records.

Men's Team

The men competing in the field had some big accomplishments this weekend. Skyler Porcaro competed in the javelin where he had a giant throw of 233' 3". Not only did he break the school record, he also placed first at the meet. Jeff Rowley followed closely with a throw of 204' 8".

Also competing in the field was Cannon Brunsvik. He placed seventh in the field with a throw of 155' 7" in the discuss. Frank Harris competed in the high jump where he hit a mark of 6' 6 ¾" placing him second at the meet.

Running for SUU, Devon Montgomery competed in the 400-meter hurdles. During this event, Montgomery raced with a time of 54.06 placing himself first at the meet.

Sean Newcomb competed in the 5,000-meter running a time of 14:43.28 putting him in front of the competition in California. Liam Kennel also ran for the T-Birds in the 1,500-meter finishing sixth with a time 3:56.8. He was followed closely by Jason Quinn.

SUU had another athlete take first when George Espino ran in the 800-meter. Espino finished the race with a time of 1:52.05.

Women's Team

The women also had some good performances in the field at UC Riverside. In the shot put, Lauren Emter finished with a mark of 43' 6" placing her sixth in the competition. She was followed by Ogochukwu Nwachukwu who place eighth with a mark of 41' 6 ½".

Lacey Hochhalter had an impressive comeback from Tommy John surgery when she competed in the javelin throw. Hochhalter finished the competition in fifth with a throw of 129' 10".

On the track for the Thunderbirds, Mia Russell competed in the 400-meter where she finished fourth with a time of 12.22. Rakayla Tyler followed in ninth with a time of 12.40

In the 400-meter, Laura Kehr finished in seventh place and with a personal best. Kehr finished with a time of 57.12. Madison Cook competed in the 400-meter hurdles where she placed eighth.

Competing in long distance, Sharlie Dimick ran a time of 4:33.06 placing third. She was followed by Angie Nickerson and Madison Fruchey taking fourth and fifth. Also running distance was Ashley Tyndall. She placed third in the competition in the 5,000-meter with a time of 18:08.02.
