Southern Utah Heads to Orem for UVU Collegiate Invite

CEDAR CITY, Utah — Southern Utah will continue its season in Orem, Utah, at the UVU Collegiate Invite. The meet will feature elite athletes across multiple events. The Thunderbirds will look to gain valuable experience and improve marks as the young season progresses.


Head Coach Eric Houle said

"There will be plenty of in-state competition at UVU this week. I'm looking for steady improvement across the board and in all our event groups."

Men's Track and Field Last Time Out

Southern Utah's men's team delivered a strong showing, highlighted by three event wins and multiple podium finishes. Junior Isley Gutierrez won the 110-meter hurdles in a meet record 14.25, while senior Bronis MacDougall claimed the javelin title with a 66.16-meter throw, ranking No. 4 all-time for the Thunderbirds. Junior Kadan Allen placed second in the 800 meters (1:50.83), and the Thunderbirds went 2-3 in the 400-meter hurdles with Ashton Miller (52.44) and Tyler Myrup (53.03). The 4x400 relay added another runner-up finish (3:19.42). Third-place finishes came from Logan Peel in the 5,000 meters (14:28.08), Divin Kalanga in the long jump (6.78m), Andrew Cooper in the shot put (16.21m), and Zsombor Takacs in the discus (50.11m), as SUU showed strong depth across events.

Women's Track and Field Last Time Out

Southern Utah's women's team was led by sophomore Jaylee Gandert, who won the javelin with a 48.26-meter throw (158-4). Freshman Timmia Rucks added a runner-up finish in the triple jump (11.23m) and contributed in the sprints, while the 4x100 relay placed fourth (48.33). Aspen Hacker posted top-10 finishes in the 1,500 meters (4:37.54) and 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:30.08). The Thunderbirds also showed depth in the throws with multiple top-10 finishes in the shot put and discus, along with consistent performances across sprints, hurdles, and middle-distance events.
