CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah softball team will play in their final non-conference tournament of the 2018 season this weekend as they compete at Loyola Marymount University from March 9-11.
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds hosted the Red Desert Classic last weekend in St. George. Seven teams competed in the tournament including Boise State, Montana, Nevada, Seattle U, Utah Valley, and Weber State.
The T-Birds picked up a win over Seattle U on the third day of the tournament. They used three home runs and a solid pitching performance from Kalei Watkins to come away with the 6-5 victory in their second game of the weekend with the Redhawks.
The Thunderbirds hit eight home runs over the course of the tournament including three from freshman Taylei Williams. Williams hit .353 in those six games with five runs scored and four RBIs.
LMU Tournament
This weekend's tournament is hosted by the Loyola Marymount University Lions in Los Angeles, California. Five teams will be competing at the tournament including Florida Gulf Coast University, Harvard University, Providence College, Southern Utah, and the host Lions.
The tournament will begin on Thursday March 8, but the Thunderbirds will not begin competition until March 9. All games will be played on the campus of LMU at Smith Field.
Game Info
Things will kick off for the Thunderbirds in California against Florida Gulf Coast on Friday at 11:30 a.m. Mountain time followed by the first of two games against Harvard at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday Southern Utah will play Providence College at 11:30 a.m. and Loyola Marymount at 4:30 p.m. Their final game of the tournament will come on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. against Harvard.
