RECAP | Thunderbird T&F Lead the Competition in UC Riverside
CEDAR CITY, Utah -- This weekend, the Thunderbirds competed at the UC Riverside Highlander Challenge. At the meet, several T-Bird athletes performed at the top of their ability, taking top rankings for SUU.
Men's Team
On the men's side of the team, the distance runners lead the races. Mike Tate placed first in the 1,500-meter finishing with a time of 3:50.10. He was followed by George Espino, Jason Quinn and Nate Osterstock.
Espino also ran in the 800-meter where he finished first with a time of 1:53.15.
In the 3,000-meter Tate lead the pack. He was followed by Matthew Wright, Nate Osterstock, Sean Newcomb and Aidan Reed. The five men took the top places in the race.
Tre James lead the sprinters in the 100-meter. James finished the race ahead of the competition with a time of 10.45 He also competed in the 200-meter. James placed second in the race with a time of 20.82.
Devin Montgomery also ran short distance for the team. He  ran the 400-meter hurdles where he finished second in the competition with a time of 53.51.
In the field, Jordan Porcaro and Oman Gatoloai competed in the hammer throw where the two men lead the team. Porcaro finished first with a mark of 178' 8". Gatoloai finished second with a mark of 138' 7".
Skyler Porcaro finished first in the javelin with a throw of 224' 10". He was followed by Jeffery Rowley who finished second with a mark of 197'7".
Canon Brunsvik also competed in the field. Brunsvik competed in the hammer where he finished third with a mark of 51' 6 ¼". He also competed in the discus. Brunsvik finished with a mark of 147' 7" placing him fourth. He was followed by Bradley Cordova-Paramo.
Frank Harris III finished first when he competed in the high jump. Harris finished with a final mark of 6' 6 ¾"
Women's Team
The women had some very big performances for the T-Birds as well. In the 1,500-meter, Madison Fruchey lead the team with a time of 4:44.27. Fruchey placed second in the competition. She was followed by Maddy Kauffman and Emma Amundsen.
Kauffman also competed in the 800-meter. She finished third in the competition with a time of 2:18.60.
Two women represented the Thunderbirds well in the 5,000-meter. Morgan Porcaro ran the race with a time of 17:36.33 placing her first in the race. She was followed by Julieta Navarrete-Lamas who finished third with a time of 18:30.4.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Carly Dalton placed second in the competition. Dalton finished with a time of 14.67. Madison Cook finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.67.
In the 200-meter, Mia Russell placed second in the competition with a time of 24.69. Russell also competed in the 100-meter where she placed fourth in the competition with a time of 12.17. She was followed by Bobbi Parker and Brooklyn Lott.
Linnea Saltz competed for the T-Birds in the 400-meter. Saltz finished the race third with a time of 56.66.
In the field, Jentry Skidmore proved to be a strong competitor in the high jump. Skidmore finished first in the competition with a mark of 5' 1 ¾". She also competed in the long jump where she finished with a mark of 18' 8 ½" placing her third overall.
Lauren Emter competed in the shot put where she finished third with a mark of 42' ½". Ellyn Williams made her outdoor debut by following Emter with a mark of 40' 7 ½". This mark placed her fourth in the competition.
In the javelin, Lacey Hochhalter finished first with a throw of 139' 2". She was followed by Jentry Skidmore and Kassie Neiwert.
