Box Score CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah softball team wrapped up a three-game series with the Montana Grizzlies Saturday afternoon, losing 4-3 after leading for most of the game.
Almost all of the offense in this one came in the first two innings, as the Grizzlies came out and scored two runs in the opening inning. Sarah Murphy hit a leadoff home run in the bottom half of the inning to answer back immediately. Kalei Watkins then tied the game with a RBI single to left field.
The Thunderbirds took the lead in the second inning when Nicole Simonson singled to left field, bringing home Mikaela Thomson from third base and making it 3-2 Southern Utah.
The score would remain 3-2 for the next four innings as both teams combined for just five hits.
Down to their final three outs, Montana put up two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead late. The Thunderbirds put two runners on base in the bottom half of the inning, but could not score, falling 4-3.
Eight different Thunderbirds had hits in the loss with Murphy, Simonson, and Watkins all picking up RBIs.
The Thunderbirds will hit the road next weekend for a three-game series with Sacramento State in California.
