CEDAR CITY, Utah - Having played three out of their first four Big Sky Conference series' at home, the Southern Utah softball team will hit the road this weekend to take on the Sacramento State Hornets in California.
Last Time Out
Last weekend the Thunderbirds were swept in a three-game series by the Montana Grizzlies. All three games were pretty close, as neither team scored more than five runs in a game and the T-Birds never lost by more than three runs.
Southern Utah held a lead at some point in two of the three games and two of them were decided in the the seventh inning.
As a team, the Thunderbirds racked up 17 hits in the series, including three home runs. They continue to lead the Big Sky during conference play with 17 home runs and four triples.
Scouting Report: Sacramento State Hornets (22-13, 7-5 BSC)
The Hornets have been one of the better teams in the Big Sky during the 2018 season and will come into this week with a 22-13 overall record and a 7-5 record in conference play.
Sac State is coming off of a series loss to Idaho State in Pocatello where they dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader after winning game one on Friday. Before that they took series wins over Portland State and league-leader Weber State, but lost their opening series to Northern Colorado.
Zamari Hinton and Suzy Brookshire have provided the firepower in 2018 for the Hornets with Hinton batting .397 and Brookshire batting .387 in 35 games played. They both lead the Big Sky in batting average with Brookshire also taking the top spot in slugging percentage (.830).
Game Info
Friday's doubleheader is set to start at 1:00 p.m. Mountain time (12:00 p.m. local time) at Shea Stadium. The second game of the day will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. Saturday's series finale will also start at 1:00 p.m. Mountain time.
