BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- The first round of the 2018 Big Sky Conference Women's Golf Championship is in the books, with two rounds left over two days of action at Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Kyla Smith led the charge for Southern Utah, shooting a four-over 76. That mark put the sophomore in a tie for 14th on the leaderboard, and will be in the first spot for the Thunderbirds on Saturday.

Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong and Nicole Jones finished tied with each other on Friday, both shooting an 80. The duo will enter the second day of competition tied for 33rd on the leaderboard.

Miranda Reyes will enter the second of three days tied for 42nd on the leaderboard, shooting an 81 in the opening 18 holes. Her score was the final one for Southern Utah to count on Friday.

Lindsay Aleman finished the day tied for 47th, shooting an 83.

As a team the Thunderbirds shot 317 on the opening day, putting them in ninth place heading into the second round.

"We're proud of the way Kyla came out and played today, but we've got some work to do as a team tomorrow to make sure we stay competitive for the rest of the weekend," SUU head coach Richard Church said.

With 36 holes to play, the Idaho Vandals and the Portland State Vikings are tied for the lead after both shooting a 296. Sacramento State rounded out the top-three shooting a 301.

Northern Arizona's Sofia Anokhina shot a 69 in the opening round, and will be the leader heading into the second day of play. Windy Huang (PSU) and Michelle Kim (UI) rounded out the top three players on Friday, shooting 70 and 71 respectively.  

The Thunderbirds will tee off at 9:30 MT on Saturday, 8:30 PT.
