Box Score CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah softball team played their final non-conference game of the 2018 season Monday afternoon as they lost to the BYU Cougars 18-4.
After giving up six runs in the opening inning, the Thunderbirds got three runs back in the bottom of the first. They used five straight hits to get things started, which led to the three runs.
The Cougars answered with eight runs in the second inning to push their lead to 14-3.
BYU added more runs in the third and the fifth innings while the Thunderbirds picked up just one more run in the third on an RBI single from Kaitlin Williams.
Taylei Williams and Kendall Kapitzke had multiple hits in the game with Kapitzke going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a RBI and Williams going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Nine different Thunderbirds had hits in the game as the team combined for 11 hits altogether.
The Thunderbirds will now turn their attention to their final series of the season as they host Portland State this weekend.
