CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah soccer team hosted the Wyoming Cowgirls Friday evening for their final non-conference home game of the 2018 season.
"Today was progress. I was hoping for a little bit more, but we still made progress," head coach Fred Thompson said. "I thought the first half was pretty good, but we have to get used to playing with a lead. It's just something we are not used to yet. It is something we have to get comfortable with and keep up once we get there."
The Thunderbirds led for most of the game as MaKenzie Lawrence scored her second goal of the season in the 29th minute of play. Lawrence took a pass from Brielle Bourgeois a slotted it past the Wyoming goalkeeper to put the Thunderbirds up 1-0. Bourgeois was credited with the assist.
Southern Utah would go into halftime up 1-0.
The Cowgirls tied things up in the 68th minute on a goal from Sekoya Romero and took the lead in the 84th minute on a SUU own goal.
The Thunderbirds could not get back even and dropped the match 2-1.
The Thunderbirds will travel to Cal Baptist University Sunday for their final non-conference match of the season before starting conference play next Friday.
