RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Southern Utah soccer team fell to Cal Baptist University 0-2 in their final non-conference game of 2018.
"I thought it was a pretty good contest overall and the team played fairly well," head coach Fred Thompson said. "The energy level was good and we played fairly competitively. The first half on Friday and the first half today were two of the best halves we have played. It was a good sign for us heading into conference play."
The Lancers scored both of their goals in the opening half, taking the lead in the fourth minute of play and adding on in the 31st minute.
The Thunderbirds held the Lancers scoreless for the final 59 minutes of play, limiting opportunities and creating more of their own in the second half. However, they would not be able to get on the board, losing 0-2.
The Thunderbirds will now turn their attention to the Big Sky Conference, traveling to Weber State and Idaho State next weekend to start conference play.
"First thing is to just get home and rest up. We had some people take some hits today and we need to make sure they are doing ok," Thompson said. "It's a new conference season and we are going to go in well organized and prepared. We are going to give it everything we have on Friday and turn around and give every last drop again on Sunday."
