CEDAR CITY, Utah - Big Sky Conference play has finally arrived for the Southern Utah soccer team. The Thunderbirds will kick things off on the road this weekend with matches against Weber State on September 21 and Idaho State on September 23.
Last Time Out
Last weekend the Thunderbirds hosted the Wyoming Cowgirls for their final non-conference home game of the season. MaKenzie Lawrence scored her second goal of the season in the match, but the Cowgirls would go on to win the contest 2-1.
The Thunderbirds also traveled to California for a match with California Baptist University, but were shut out by the Lancers 2-0.
Scouting Report: Weber State Wildcats (2-3-3)
The Wildcats are coming out of non-conference play with two wins under their belt, picking up their first win on September 4 over Utah Valley and their second on September 14 over UC Santa Barbara.
Four Wildcats lead the team in points with four each. Morgan Quarnberg and Kinsley Napoli both have two goals on the season and Olivia Barton has dished out four assists.
Last season the Wildcats finished Big Sky play with a 2-5-3 record. The Thunderbirds beat the Wildcats in Cedar City 2-1 in overtime.
Scouting Report: Idaho State Bengals (1-6-0)
Idaho State picked up just one win in seven non-conference games in 2018, beating Utah State 5-4 in double overtime. Last weekend the Bengals hosted South Dakota State, losing 2-0 and wrapped up non-conference play on the road with a 3-0 loss to Boise State.
Delaney Johnston leads the Bengals in points on the season with two goals for a total of four points. Laule'a Phillips has started seven games in goal for the Bengals, making 35 saves and allowing 22 goals for a goals against average of 3.89.
Last season the Bengals finished Big Sky play with a 2-7-1 record. The Thunderbirds beat the Wildcats in Cedar City 2-1.
