CEDAR CITY, Utah - After opening Big Sky play on the road last weekend, the Southern Utah soccer team is set to play their first home conference match this Sunday against Northern Arizona.
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds opened Big Sky play with losses to Weber State and Idaho State. MaKenzie Lawrence and Brielle Bourgeois scored a goal each in the 2-5 loss to the Wildcats. It was the third goal of the season for Lawrence and the first of the season for Bourgeois.
Lawrence is now tied for third in the Big Sky in goals scored and tied for sixth in total points.
Brianna Aldridge made a career-high 13 saves in the 0-1 loss to Idaho State. The redshirt freshman continues to lead the Big Sky in saves with 64 on the season. Aldridge also ranks fourth in save percentage.
Scouting Report: Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (5-3-2, 1-0-1 BSC)
The Lumberjacks come into the weekend with the best overall record in the Big Sky at 5-3-2. They sit in a tie for second place in the conference after defeating Idaho State and playing to a draw with Weber State last weekend.
Paige Maling and Sam Larberg lead the Lumberjacks offensively with two goals apiece. Tatum Heeres also shares the points lead on the team with four assists for four points total. Taryn Benham has started every game in goal for the Lumberjacks, recording four shutouts so far this season. Benham has allowed just nine goals in ten games played.
Last season the Thunderbirds were able to take down the Lumberjacks 1-0 in Flagstaff.
