OMAHA, Neb. - The Southern Utah soccer team fell to the Omaha Mavericks Saturday evening in a match that ended 1-0 in favor of the home team.
The Thunderbirds got off to a slow start in Nebraska as it took them 39 minutes to take their first shot on goal. The Mavericks scored their lone goal of the game in the 37th minute of play when Hannah Heinemann slotted her first goal of the season after a deflected shot found its way to her feet. The first half ended 1-0.
Southern Utah was able to shut out the Mavericks in the second half, keeping them to just one goal in the match. However, the Thunderbirds would not be able to break through for a goal of their own during that time.
Brianna Aldridge made seven saves in the match.
The Thunderbirds will be back in action next week as they host Wyoming on September 14 and travel to California to take on Cal Baptist on September 16.
